Chang Cho Lin Dollar realised HK$1,380,000

A 1926 Chang Cho Lin Silver Dollar realised HK$1,380,000 (USD$177,915) in Spink China Numismatic Collector's Series Sale held in Hong Kong on the 2nd of April. This was by far the most outstanding realised price of the auction.

The silver coin is extremely rare, showcasing one of the four designs of the famous Manchurian Warlord, Chang Cho Lin, before his assassination by the Japanese in 1928. The coin design show Chang Cho Lin portrait on obverse, legend reads: 'Grand Marshall of the Army and Navy', reverse '15th Year of the Republic of China' and 'One Dollar', sun and wreath at centre.

In total, 1367 lots were offered to collectors and Numismatists with many items exceeding estimates and expectations and due to a lot of interest from phone bidders and Spink Live, the Hong Kong showroom garnered attention from across the Globe. Spink China well regarded Numismatic Collector's Series, auctioned hundreds of banknotes, coins and bonds and shares, from wide ranging provenances.


Other highlights include the beautiful yet unusual rarity that was lot 1135A. A 2nd Series Renminbi from The People's Bank of China.

This banknote was first introduced in 1955 to replace the preceding series with the newly issued denomination of 3 yuan.

Due to being graded highly by an independent currency authentication company, the lot became highly sought after and received HK$156,000 in auction, which again is well above its estimated price.

With almost 350 years of under its belt, the success of the auction firmly reassures Spink as a strong choice within the Global Numismatic and Collectables market.
