Today, Singapore Straits Times share a few pictures of Singapore new $1 coin middle popping out from it ring. They found the pictures shared via Twitter. So far, They has found three different pictures of a $1 coin with the middle missing.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) reply that the Bi-metal coin will only separated with extreme force, adding that it was an offence to mutilate coins, and that the matter was being investigated by police.
For your information, Canada Toonies also has the same problem in the first shipment of the coins. It could separate if struck hard or frozen, as the centre piece would shrink more than the outside. This problem was quickly corrected by the Royal Canadian Mint. Toonie popping is a normal thing in a few month of its introduction.
