Free Royal Engagement £5 souvenier note

A study by Travelex UK Limited, with more than 1,500 people surveyed last month, 83% of them wanted a special Welsh banknote to mark Prince William's engagement to Kate Middleton. Travelex commissioned the study and has produced the £5 commemorative banknote. It is similar in shape and size to a £5 sterling note and replaces the image of the Queen with one showing William. Nearly half of those polled also called for the prince, who is stationed at RAF Valley on Anglesey as a search and rescue helicopter pilot, and his fiancee to be made Prince and Princess of Wales.

£5 souvenier note
Travelex director Peter Davies said: "Scotland and Northern Ireland both have recognised banknotes, which whilst not legal tender, are accepted throughout the UK and widely used for transactions in each country.

"It's been over 100 years since the last Welsh banknotes were in circulation and this is as good a reason as any to bring it back."

More than half of those questioned (53%) favoured William's image on the commemorative banknote, putting him above Welsh celebrities like Shirley Bassey 12%, Katherine Jenkins 7%, Ryan Giggs 7%, Charlotte Church 5% and Tom Jones 2%.

To celebrate the Royal Engagement and Travelex findings, they’re giving away a Limited Edition 'Welsh Fiver', together with a unique voucher code, which can be redeemed for £5 off your next currency transaction at travelex.co.uk when selecting to collect your order from one of Travelex stores. For your chance to win one, simply complete Travelex quiz telling them who you’d like to see on a Welsh £5 note, and enter your details when requested. The first 200 lucky entries will receive a ‘Welsh Fiver’ along with a unique £5 voucher code which can be used up until 29th April 2011.

You can visit Travelex ‘Welsh Fiver’ quiz to participate and read here for Terms & Conditions. This prize draw is open to persons aged 18 years or over who are resident in the United Kingdom. Just answer all the questions correctly and enter your details when requested, no purchase needed. The Travelex Welsh Fiver started from 9.00 a.m. on 4 January until 11.29 p.m. on 29 April 2011.

Free EBook: Encyclopedia of Small Silver Coins

Another free ebook for my blog reader: Encyclopedia of Small Silver Coins. This is the 3rd edition of the book and it is publish in 2008. The book started with his children interest in collecting dime size silver coins. After a year the children gave up the hobby and Roger deWardt Lane took over the Dime Collection. This Encyclopedia of Small Silver Coins was in preparation for thirty years. For the first ten years it was hand printed in manuscript form.

Straits SettlementsPhoto: Straits Settlements coin.

deWardt
The author, Roger deWardt Lane, nearly forty years ago, started his interest in Modern Dime Size Silver Coins of the World and put together a typeset of 18 mm silver coins from countries around the world. The dates started with the issues of Queen Victoria and ended with the last circulating silver coins of this size - 1970 Netherlands Antilles, minted in Holland. Several years later, He enlarge the series to include 17mm - 19mm, all dates, mint marks, assay initials and fineness arranged by date order within mints.

According to the author in his book. DIME (French, dixieme, Latin, decimus, tenth), the term for the tenth part of a dollar or ten-cent piece in the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, April 2, 1792. The first dime was coined in 1796. The denomination One Dime has a French root from dixieme to disme (used on the U.S. pattern of 1792) to the tenth part of a dollar.

The ebook is separated into three volume and you need to view it according to their country. No complete sets of book found for download. Some 101 country covered in this book including Malaya, Straits Settlements, British North Borneo, Sarawak, United States, Netherlands East Indies, Canada & Ceylon. The books covered in around 600 pages, complete with a history of the coin and the country its origin as a footnote. You can get the book by visiting the author website: Free EBook: Encyclopedia of Small Silver Coins. To the author, if you have any link for full download of the free book, please let me know.

Free ebook: Coin designer list

I found this coin designer list ebook while searching for information about the mint mark GC on Malaysia 50 sen coin. Some people says that the word GC meant for Government Coin. The initial GC exactly meant for Geoffrey Colley, the designer for that coin. the only information I can find came from that book. Geoffrey Colley born in Gillenham, UK in 1934 and studied art in Kent and London.

Among his medallic creations are: Battle of Britain 25th Anniversary; Desert War 25th Anniversary; Albert Einstien; Maiden Voyage of Queen Elizabeth II 1969; 46 General Dwight David Eisenhower; 900th Anniversary of the Norman Conquest 1966; and eight medals honoring the American Revolution.Designs: Aruba O&R/ 10 F. 2002 (com.) KM-24. Bermuda R/ 1 Cr. KM-13, 14. Fiji R/ 1 D. 1970 KM-33. Also, coins of Bahrain, Iceland, Iraq, Malaysia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Trinidad & Tobago, and United Arab Emirates.

Book: Coin Designers, Modelers and Engravers (2008 EDITION).
Writer: Charles R. Hosch
Pages: 255
You can download it using rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/402842142/coin_designer_list.pdf.html

This book is an effort to provide brief biographical information on coin designers, modelers and engravers and references to some of the coin designs they created. For the most part, it is limited to such artists since 1900; however, many designers of coins issued prior to 1900 by countries such as the United States, Great Britain and many British Commonwealth countries, and certain European countries are included. This compilation does not purport to be a complete listing of coin designers, modelers and engravers. It would be impossible to do so. Most mints do not publish this information. The ones that do are usually limited to the English- and German-speaking countries, as well as others that have a long tradition of recognizing artistic achievement (mostly in Europe).

However, even the British Royal Mint often attributes designs to “staff artists.” Similarly, the U.S. Mint in recent years, has been reluctant to reveal the names of the designers of commemorative coins which are chosen in state or nation wide competitions, publishing only the name of the U.S. Mint Sculptor/Engraver. Probably 98 percent (or more) of world coin designs since 1800 are not attributed to any particular artist.

Also, the author has undoubtedly omitted many names which are available in various numismatic works. A great deal of information on coin artists is available on the Internet; however, much of it is in languages other than English. For example, there may be many article listings (or ‘hits’) on the Internet for a prominent Ukraine artist, but most of them are in the Ukrainian language.

This is a good book if you want to find any information about Coin Designers, Modelers and Engravers. Its hard to find any information about them online. I am not sure if this book is distributed for free or not but if you (the owner) of the book is reading this, please inform me if you want the download link to be removed.

World Cuplucky coin
Remember where you were for the England games with this fantastic memento that you can keep forever. The Royal Mint are giving away 150,000 of these souvenirs to join you in showing support for the England team.
Geoffrey Hurst
Sir Geoffrey Charles Hurst MBE (born 8 December 1941 in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire) is a retired England footballer best remembered for his years with West Ham. He made his mark in World Cup history as the only player to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final. His three goals came in the 1966 final for England in their 4–2 win over West Germany at the old Wembley. Such an achievement was made all the more remarkable by the fact that he was only five months and eight games into his international career, and was not considered his country's premier centre forward.

Since 1966, only three players have come close to emulating Hurst's hat-trick in a World Cup final. Mario Kempes of Argentina in 1978, Zinedine Zidane for France in 1998 and Ronaldo for Brazil in 2002 all scored two goals in World Cup finals but did not manage a third.

Hurst's contribution to the English game was recognised in 2004 when he was inducted in the English Football Hall of Fame. Hurst is also one of the few footballers who have been knighted, and this recognises his contribution to the game.

In popular culture, a shot bouncing off the crossbar and hitting the line is referred to as a "Geoff Hurst style shot" if no goal is given, or a "Geoff Hurst style goal". An example of that is David Trezeguet (of Juventus's) penalty against Italy in the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final when it went to penalties. As he shot, the ball smacked the bar, and in similar circumstances it was not clear if it crossed the line.

This free souvenir only for UK resident. You can check out their website, itsenglandtime.com to register and get that beautiful lucky coin.

What team do you support at this year FIFA World Cup 2010?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coin Collecting For Dummies, 2nd edition

How This Book Is Organized
This book is divided into six parts that provide you with a concise introduction and overview, involve you in starting your collection, and take you deeper and deeper into the world of numismatics. Each chapter is designed to stand on its own, so you can start reading wherever you choose and jump from chapter to chapter with ease.

Part I: Making Heads and Tails out of Coin Collecting

Don’t be intimidated by the word numismatics — it’s just a big word for the study of coins, the first stop in coin collecting. In this part, we give you plenty of reasons to fall in love with coin collecting. We also stress the importance of doing your homework before you jump in with both feet, and we steer you into some areas in which you want to become knowledgeable about coins. Finally, we show you how to store coins properly so that you and future generations can enjoy them to their fullest.

Part II: Ancient to Present Day: Choosing Coins for Your Collection

Coins have been made for thousands of years by hundreds of different countries, so you have a lot to work with. Where to start? What to collect? This part takes a look at ancient coins, U.S. coins, world coins, and the wild and wooly stuff that will really get your numismatic juices pumping. After you’ve read these chapters, you’ll have a good idea of what you want to collect.

Part III: Focusing on U.S. Coins

The United States has a rich and varied numismatic history that includes some of the greatest coins in the world. In this part, we present more than just a peek at most of them. Our goal in these chapters is to present you with choices and then let you decide which ones are for you.

Part IV: Buying Coins the Safe Way

You buy coins with the money left over after paying all your living expenses, so make those purchases count. That can be difficult because it’s a jungle out there! In this part, we alert you to some of the scams that less-than-reputable dealers use to separate you from your hard-earned money. We discuss the various numismatic price guides that help you value your collection and buy and sell coins. We also introduce you to the bane of coin collecting — counterfeit and altered coins — and show you why not to fear them. Where you buy your coins can be just as important as what coins you buy, so this part presents an in-depth look at working with dealers and buying coins at auction. A coin’s condition (known as its grade) is the single most important factor affecting its value. Learning to grade coins takes time, patience, and practice. In this part, we introduce you to some of the concepts behind grading, explain how to learn to grade coins, and show you how to use third-party grading services to your benefit.

Part V: Selling Coins and Minding the Law

You can’t take your coins with you when you die. So what’s the best way to sell them before you do? In this part, we present the three main options: selling your collection by yourself, selling to or through a dealer, and selling at auction. Each method has its pros and cons, all of which are outlined here. We also cover legal issues surrounding coin collecting — everything from using coins as an investment to paying taxes.

Part VI: The Part of Tens

Our editors said to have fun with this part — so we did! In this part, you meet the ten most valuable U.S. coins (wait until you see the prices), our ten favorite coin designs (what a bevy of beauties), and ten ways to get your kids involved in coin collecting.

Free Microsoft Access Coin Collection Organizer database

Yesterday, I found this Coin collector organizer 1.0 by Nelson R. Linares. This is a free software or organizer for your coin collection database. This database application helps you manage and keep track of your coin collection, but you'll need to have Microsoft Access to use it. I tried them today and the only drawback is that you cannot add a new user id for this software. There is also no features to upload your coin picture into this database.

The program tracks several details, including a coin's country of origin, denomination, mint mark, composition, condition, and valuation date and price. You can manage your database by adding, updating, or deleting particular items. The program generates simplistic reports based on your entries.

It includes reporting and tracking variations. This application requires MS Access 2002 or newer. The application is contained within a ZIP file. Simply save it to disk and unzip it using an application such as WinZip. To start the application, double-click on the file named Coin Collection Organizer.mdb .
