CTTan Numis-Amcorp Mall Flea Market

Yesterday I found CTTan or Tan Choon Teng (CT Tan) at his stall in Amcorp Mall Flea Market on the 2nd floor, near the escalator (near Pos Malaysia). CTTan also has a shop, CTTan Trading, No 33-2-68, Prangin Mall, Jalan Dr. Lim Chwee Leong, 10100 Georgetown, Pulau Pinang.

I think he was already popular in Facebook as a seller since I can see he has been actively doing coins & banknotes trading in some of the Facebook Groups for the past 2 years. I never meet him personally before but he treats all his customers like an old friends, a good way to do business in a crowded places like Amcorp Mall.

I have to wait for a few minutes before I have the opportunity to chat & take his pictures since he has customer asking about his RM50 Commonwealth Games 3 in 1 uncut banknotes. Even though the old ladies don't look like a collector (For me, she is just curious about how the komanwel RM50 look like), he still happily treats her well and give her enough information about the uncut banknotes. He even show her how the uncut banknotes look like by opening the plastic covering the folder and show her the actual banknotes.

He have many Malaysia banknotes for sale especially replacement and Fancy Number Banknotes but less coins for display/sell. You can contact Tan Choon Teng (CT Tan) via his handphone 016-4132313.

Numis Coins moved to Amcorp Mall

After few years (almost 3 years?) his shop at Maju Junction Mall closed, Numis Coins and notes (Raymond Chang) have open a new shop at Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya. When we make a visit on 19 June, he is still busy sorting his items in his new shop.

The new Numis Coins and notes is at LG 19 (next to Giant Supermarket), Amcorp Mall, 18, Jalan Persiaran Barat, Off Jalan Timur, 46050 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

He said, he will be open everyday at around 11am and will be closed around 8pm. If you're coming on weekdays, to make sure he open his shop, please contact him before you coming for a visit at his shop. He open at around 9am for weekends.

It will take time before his shop fully ready for a visitor but he still need to open to pay for his rental fees.

For anyone who still don't know him, Raymond Chang is one of the old-timer numismatic dealer in Malaysia. He is one of the dealer who specialized in Malaysia proof coins.

He also sell Malaysia, Malaya, Straits Settlements, and also foreign coins & banknotes. He also sell coins & banknotes accesories (coin holder, coin album, banknote album, magnifying glass etc ).

Congratulations and best wishes to Raymond Chang for his new shop. Even though he was busy, he was still willing to entertain questions from us.

Apparently, there is some reason to visit Amcorp Mall during weekdays as more coin dealer open their shop there.

Saneoh Stamp Corner, Sungai Petani

Yesterday (22 May 2016), Saneoh Stamp Corner, a well known Northern region Stamps and Numismatics Dealer officially open their new shop at Ground Floor, SP Plaza Complex, Sungai Petani, Kedah. Saneoh Stamp Corner is the oldest Stamps shop in Sungai Petani, Kedah. SA Neoh open his shop since 1999 at 2nd Floor, Sg Petani Central Square.

Today, I have a chance to interview Mr. SA Neoh about his new shop. When ask how do he start selling coins/banknote and stamps.

"It was during my student day that I first started collecting stamp," he reply.

"There was nothing for us to while away our time during the early 60's to tell you I'm now in my early 60 s also".

"Back then we started collecting by swapping not much money to spend either.Then slowly when we left school to work only then we have the means to buy,at least.So when your collection started to accumulate to such an extend that you find no where to keep that you either sell o started a big business no one dare to venture .That was in the 90 s when I started to sell stamps,no banknotes yet but coins yes not much."

They sell and buy Malaysia Commemorative proof coins, Malaysia coins and banknotes, Malaya coins and banknotes, Straits Settlements coins and banknotes, old coins related to Malaysia, foreign coins and banknotes. They also sell coins & banknotes accesories (coin holder, coin album, banknote album, magnifying glass etc ).

You can go there by Keretapi Tanah Melayu KTM train and stop at the Sungai Petani station. SP Plaza is located approximately 1 kilometer from the KTM station. Taxi service is also available at the KTM station.

If you are using your own car, use the old road to Alor Setar from Butterworth, it will be easy for you to find it since the building is on the roadside. If you're using PLUS highway, out at Exit 124, Sungai Petani (North). After exiting the PLUS toll, you can see Cinta Sayang Golf & Country Club on the right, take left until you see SP PLaza building.

SP Plaza is just 1 hour drive away from both the Penang International Airport as well as from the Alor Setar Airport.

Uptown Banknote Shah Alam

Last night, I have visited the newly open Uptown Banknote shop after his old shop was burned in October last year. His shop located at Uptown Shah Alam or also known as Kompleks Muhibbah at Seksyen 24 Shah Alam. Chee Ly is the only banknote and coin dealer in Uptown Shah Alam.

The last time I visited him was in July 2011 (you can read about it here; Uptown Shah Alam). He told me, his new shop renovation completed during the fasting month this year. He also told me that his new shop is a bit smaller compare to the old one that I visited in 2011. Chee Ly was very active in joining numismatic auction, exhibition and flea market sales around Malaysia.

The easiest way to find Uptown Shah Alam is using KESAS (Shah Alam Highway) and enter LKSA ( Lebuhraya Kemuning-Shah Alam), just look for Kompleks Muhibbah Shah Alam signboard after you pay your toll. You need to make a U-Turn at the Persiaran Jubli Perak roundabout. There are no nearby LRT or train. The nearest train is KTM Komuter Shah Alam Station and you need to use taxi service to go to Uptown Shah Alam.

Uptown Banknote shop open from Tuesday until Sunday every week. His shop closed on Monday and during Major Public Holidays. His shop open from 8.30pm until 2.30am. You are advised to call him in advance if you want to meet him.

It is not difficult to find Chee Ly new shop, you need to enter the food area at the back of the Uptown Shah Alam, his shop is just few shops away.

His shop trademark are custom made coins and banknotes frames. You can find many Malaysia banknote which has been framed on his shop wall.

He told me, this time he will be more focus on numismatic items in his shop. Compare to the old shop that sell and display raybans, Coke-cola bottle, collectible cigarette items and stickers. His present shop only sell Malaysia coin cards, banknotes, coins, numismatic catalogs and numismatic accesories.

You can also find many Malaysia coin cards and medallion card in Uptown banknote shop. Except for the rare coin cards such as Police and RMK9, you can find many choice of Malaysia coin card here, a good place for newbie to find their coin card.

Joson Numismatic Collections Shop

If a coin collectors visit Jonker Street in Malacca, I'm sure you've visited Joson Numismatic Collections Shop before. Jalan Hang Jebat or formerly known as Jonker Street is good tourist attraction in Melaka, where government called it as the best places to hunt and bargain for antiques.

The last time I visit his shop is in 2012. I had been to Melaka a few times last year but not for numismatic purposes. On Friday and Staruday night, Jalan Hang Lekir closes down for traffic and the street become Jonker Walk Night Market. You can buy many interesting thing in the night market.
