Seychelles 'sex' banknote sold for £336

A 50 Rupee Seychelles banknote featuring the Queen with the word "sex" secretly written behind her in palm trees has been sold at Dorchester-based auctioneers Duke’s on October 15 for £336. The 50 Rupee Seychelles, which dates back to between 1968 and 1973, was sold alongside other historic coins and notes.

The sex banknote, can you spot the word 'sex'?

Timothy Medhurst, from the Duke's Auctioneers, said: "This is a very collectable item for obvious reasons.

"Amazingly the added message wasn't noticed - or was perhaps never mentioned - until after it stopped being printed.

"There are various theories about how the word came to be included. Many think the engraver Brian Fox of Bradbury & Wilkinson, the printers, put it in."

Another note in the series contains the word "scum", he said, suggesting the additions were added deliberately as the island tried to remove itself from British rule.
