A set of 10 pieces unissued, unrecorded uniface Animal Series Trial Pattern coins intended for general circulation in 1967 will be featured in the documentary titled “Time Capsule Malaysia” which would be screened every Sunday at 9pm on Astro History Channel (ASTRO Ch. 555 & 575HD) starting from Sept 14. The historic coin will be featured in Episode 4 scheduled to be aired on Sunday,21 Sept, 2014 - 21:30.
Congratulations to Sifu Dickson Niew because he will be involved with the episode 4. He will tell the story why the coins that supposed to be the 1st Malaysia circulation coins cannot be minted and used. A video clips about a contestants who participate in a Malaysia coin design contest in 1966 receiving their gifts might be aired too. I wish we can also see all the participating coin designs for that contest in the programme. It will be a rare piece of information even for a Malaysia coin collectors since we rarely see any of our national TV or newspaper sharing Malaysia coin designer pictures or videos.
The 10 pieces Animal Series Trial Pattern coins are rare piece for Malaysian collectors. Even Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia Museum, don't have a single piece from that Trial Pattern coins displayed in their Museum.
