Today, Bank Negara Malaysia is issuing commemorative coins in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Yayasan Sabah. The coloured silver and Nordic Gold coin were launched by the Chief Minister of Sabah cum Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman at Auditorium Tun Raffae, Menara Tun Mustapha, Kota Kinabalu.
Obverse Side of the coin shows the image and surroundings of Menara Tun Mustapha, also known as the Sabah Foundation Tower. The words “Ulang Tahun Ke-50” and the years “1966-2016” denotes the 50th anniversary. The Foundation’s official name “YAYASAN SABAH” is featured on the upper circumference of the coin.
Reverse Side of the coin show the words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin are featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference. In between, the official logo of Yayasan Sabah is featured on the coin.
The specifications of the commemorative coins are as follows:
1. Coloured Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
This proof coloured coin is made of Fine Silver with 99.9 purity and weighs 31.10 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM212 a piece. The mintage quantity is 500 pieces.
2.Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10.60 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.
3. 2 in 1 set
These commemorative coins are also available in a Set of 2, consisting of the coloured silver and Nordic gold proof coins. A total of 2,000 sets are available for sale, each priced at RM265.

The coins will be available for sale from 16 May 2016 at Bank Negara Malaysia’s Museum and Art Gallery (MAG), regional offices and branch located in Pulau Pinang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
Today, Bank Negara Malaysia also announced the prize winners for the BNM coin design competition 2016 for the 50th Anniversary of Yayasan Sabah commemorative coins.
