Pudsey Bear £5 note-Scotland's first polymer note

A limited edition, Pudsey Bear £5 note-Bank of Scotland's first polymer note, with circulation limited to 50 notes will be auctioned off to raise money for BBC Children in Need. The £5 note was designed by 13-year-old Dundee schoolgirl Kayla Robson, the first UK note to have been designed by a child.

The charity’s mascot, Pudsey Bear, makes a special appearance on the note with Kayla’s design depicting him raising a Saltire.

Only 50 will be printed in total, 40 of which will feature the serial code Pudsey01 through to Pudsey40. The remaining 10 banknotes will be available for personalised serial numbers by the buyer, the bank said.

Most of the notes will be auctioned in December by auction house Spink's.

Kayla Robson, a 13-year-old Morgan Academy pupil from Dundee, won a competition to design part of the note.

She said: "I am very excited to see my design on the new £5 note. Art has always been one of my favourite subjects but I never expected one of my drawings to end up on a banknote."

Annette Barnes, Bank of Scotland's retail managing director, said: "This new five pound note is brighter and bolder than most other banknotes in circulation and really brings to life what BBC Children in Need means to so many people.

"Kayla did a fantastic job with her design and I am delighted to see how we have been able to incorporate it into our first polymer banknote."
