Growing interest for Malay Archipelago Money

Every year, I can see a growing interest for Malay Archipelago Money in auction. In the recent Collectibles Auction Asia (CAA) in their Coins & Banknotes Auction 4/2014 conducted in Singapore of the 12 lots on offer only 1 passed by bidders in the auction. In the recent Malaysia Numismatic Society MNS No.161 Auction of the 8 lots on offer only 1 passed by bidders in the auction.

Malay Archipelago is the largest group of islands in the world including Malaysia, Singapore, the islands of Indonesia, then known as the Dutch East Indies, and the island of New Guinea.

Despite the growing collector interest over the years, very difficult to see genuine gold and silver coins of the Malay Archipelago offered in any auction. Hopefully someday there will be Auctioneers who will make a special auction for only Malay Archipelago coins. I am not sure if it will be a hit among collectors but I'm sure many people will eventually begin to participate in collecting them.

At this moment, although the price paid in the auction is veryexpensive but it is very difficult to see such a collection come out again in the future. I have seen once in a while collector will share their collections on Facebook but they're not selling it.

Each time a rare Malay Archipelago Money offered in auction there's will be a fight by bidder to buy the rare coins.

At this moment, there was not a single book with an updated prices of old Malay coins. Prices are just based on mouth to mouth market price and buyer & seller agreement.
