Christmas came early this year with Royal Canadian Mint new 2012 Santa Magical Visit coin. The coin is the sixth issue for the mint annual series of Holiday lenticular coins. When you tip your coin to switch images of Santa unloading gifts then putting a finger to his lips asking you to not wake up your parents. Only 25,000 pieces of these lenticular cupro-nickel coins will be minted for worldwide distribution. The coin is encapsulated and presented in a maroon clamshell case lined with flock and protected by a black sleeve. You can order your coin now at www.mint.ca and they will start shipping your coin on 23 November 2012.
The coin obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The coin reverse show two vibrantly coloured images of Santa unloading gifts and hushing the viewer in a cosy holiday parlour by Canadian artist Tony Bianco. The images switch when the coin is tipped; a feature rendered using lenticular technology.
