17th Asian Games Coins Incheon 2014

On April 24, the Bank of Korea has announced that it will issue a set of gold, silver and bronze coins this August to commemorate the 17th Asian Games or officially known as the XVII Asiad. The set includes two gold coins, three silver coins and one bronze coin. The purity of both the gold and silver coins is 99.9 percent. The bronze will be made with 65 percent of copper and 35 percent zinc.

Incheon 2014

A maximum of 8,000 gold coins will be issued with a face value of 20,000 Korean Won and 15,000 Korean Won each. Up to 12,500 silver coins will be issued with a face value of 10,000 Korean Won and two types of 5,000 Korean Won. In addition, a maximum of 17,500 bronze coins will be issued with a face value of 1,000 Korean Won.

All the coins have same obverse design, a 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 Official Logo and wording in Korean about the games. All the coins will be sold starting on 19 September 2014.

After production, they will be distributed by the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee, said the Bank of Korea.

The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad, is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It is scheduled to take place in Incheon, South Korea from September 19 – October 4, 2014 with 439 events in 36 sports and disciplines set to feature in the Games. ncheon is South Korea's third largest city, located west of Seoul.

Unveiled on September 16, 2010, "Diversity Shines Here" is the official slogan of the Games. It represents and highlights the significance of Asia’s wonderful diversity in history, cultures, and religions.

Three Spotted seal siblings was unveiled on November 4, 2010 as official mascot of the Games in Songdo Island, Incheon. The three seals, known as "Barame", "Chumuro" and "Vichuon", means wind, dance and light in Korean language, is in accordance with the theme of main venue. The prototype was taken from Baengnyeong Island. According to the organisers, the mascot was chosen as symbolic to the future peace between South Korea and North Korea.
