Collectibles Auction Asia-Auction 8/2016 on Oct 8

On 8 Oct, Collectibles Auction Asia (CAA) will held their 8th Auction at Landmark Village Hotel, Singapore. CAA 8/2016 offered 1163 lots of coins and banknotes to collectors via floor bid and online auction at liveauctioneers.com.

CAA Auction

In the morning session (coins), a proof set of Malaysian coins, presented to long serving senior officials of Bank Negara Malaysia staff Encik Hew Weng Kai (1958-1985) on his retirement is the main highlight of the auction. Until today, only 5 complete sets are known to exist.

The proof set contains:
  • 1967 1 sen copper.
  • 1967 5, 10, 20 & 50 sen Cupro Nickel Proof.
  • 1969 $1 Silver Proof, 10th Anniv of Bank Negara Malaysia commemorative.
  • 1971 $1 Cupro Nickel Proof Parliament House.
  • 1971 $5 Cupro Nickel Proof Parliament House.
  • 1971 RM 100 Gold proof, Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman commemorative (very rare).
  • 1972, $1 Cupro Nickel KL City Commemorative.

Bidding price for lot 457 start at SGD18,000 and maximum estimate price is SGD30,000.

On 23 April 2016, during Collectibles Auction Asia 7/2016, a proof set of Malaysian coins presented to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) security staff, Encik Abu Bakar Bin Mat Daud sold for RM57,885 (SGD20,000; excluding buyer premium).

1890H Specimen

A Straits Settlements, 1890H, Silver 20c, Specimen (Lot 268) is another main highlight for the auction. The rare Straits Settlements coin is graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation NGC SP 66 and estimate to sell for SGD18,000.

Gold Kupang

An extremely rare old gold coin of Malay Sultanate, Sultan Abdul Jalil Shan III Gold Kupang (SS14) is estimate to sell for SGD5,000 in Lot 202. The octagonal Johor Malay Sultanate coin show in Arabic “Sultan Abdul Jalil Shan” on obverse and in Arabic “Khalifatul Muminin” (Ruler of the faithful) on reverse.

Sultan Mahmud Shah II 1685-1699 Obverse: In Arabic “Sultan Mahmud Shah” Reverse: In Arabic “ Khalifatul Muminin” (Ruler of the faithful-i.e. of the religion of Islam). Edge: Plain. Weight: 2.524gm. Diameter: 15.06mm. Composition: Gold (Octagonal). RRRR. Estimate SGD1,500 – SGD2,500.
  • Lot 388: British North Borneo, 1886H, Copper ½ c, Specimen, NGC SP 63 RB. Estimate SGD400 – SGD500.
  • Lot 389: British North Borneo, 1886H, Copper ½ c Specimen. NGC SP 66 RB. Estimate SGD800 – SGD1,200.
  • Lot 402: Sarawak, 1933H, Copper ½ c, Specimen. PCGS SP 67 RD. Ex-Kings Norton Mint Collection, highest graded. Estimate SGD3,600 – SGD5,000.
  • Lot 403: Sarawak, 1934H, C-N 10c, Specimen. PCGS SP 67. Ex-Kings Norton Mint Collection, highest graded. Estimate SGD4,000 – SGD6,000.
  • Lot 442: Malaysia, 1967, 1st Series, Parliament House Proof Coins Set of 5: 1 Sen; 5 Sens; 10 Sens; 20 Sens and 50 Sens Mintage: 500 only. With original Presentation Case very good condition. Estimate SGD2,000 – SGD4,000.
  • Lot 453: Malaysia, 2016, RM 5, Copper Proof like, World Team Table Tennis Championship Commemorative. NGC PL 68 RD. Estimate SGD100 – SGD200.

Sungei Buloh

Banknotes session will start at 2pm and the main highlight for banknotes are the Sungei Buloh Settlement Private issue banknotes in lot 669 (Estimate SGD7,000 – SGD12,000), 670 (Estimate SGD14,000 – SGD20,000), 671 (Estimate SGD10,000 – SGD16,000) & 672 (Estimate SGD20,000 – SGD30,000). The Sungei Buloh Settlement notes were issued in 1935 and 1936, when part of Sungei Buloh was a leprosarium. These banknotes are extremely scarce and printed by the Survey Department, Federated Malay States.

Duit Contoh Malaysia

A complete set of Malaysia 1982-1984 (No date), 5th series CONTOH banknotes (RM 1, RM5, RM10, RM20, RM50, RM100, RM500, RM 1000) will be auction with a starting price of SGD40,000. The Banknotes signed by the Bank’s Governor Tan Sri Dato Abdul Aziz Bin Haji Taha. Engraved & Printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Ltd, England. RM 20; RM 1000 by Bradury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd, England. All with red “CONTOH” on face and back.

On 23 April 2016, during Collectibles Auction Asia 7/2016, a complete set of Malaysia 1986-1995 6th series CONTOH banknotes sold for a record price RM92,615 (SGD32,000 excluding buyer premium).

green color $1 Malaya

One of the rarely seen banknote in any auction, a King George Vi green color $1 Malaya 1940 is another main highlight for the auction. The banknote graded as PMG VF 20 NET and estimate to sell for SGD12,000 – SGD18,000.

  • Lot 816: Malaysia, 3rd series, 1976-1981, RM 50, “Printer Proof”, face and back 2pcs, blue colour. AU-UNC. Estimate SGD5,000 – SGD8,000.
  • Lot 1006: Malaysia, 12th series, 2007, RM 50, low number, commemorative, AA 0000055, yellow edges / gold line, with Anni logo, KNB 75. PMG 67 EPQ. Estimate SGD6,500 – SGD8,000.
