BNM launched 70 years of RTM commemorative coins

Yesterday, Malaysia Central Bank (BNM) launched new commemorative coins in conjunction with the 70th Anniversary of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

Commemorative coins in silver and Nordic gold proof was launched by Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak at Wisma Radio, Angkasapuri here on Saturday night.

The centre of the coin obverse shows the iconic image of RTM’s headquarters, Angkasapuri. The building features a unique facade decorated with a motif based on the shape of the tongue. The words RADIO TELEVISYEN MALAYSIA are on the upper circumference and the years 1946 – 2016 denoting 70 years of anniversary are inscribed below the words.

The Reverse Side of the Coin show the words BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference. The event logo for the 70th Anniversary of Radio Televisyen Malaysia is featured on centre of the coin.

RTM is the first broadcaster in Malaysia that launched radio broadcast on 1 April 1946 and television broadcast on 28 December 1963.

The specifications of the commemorative coins are as follows:

1. Coloured Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
This proof coloured coin is made of Fine Silver with 99.9 purity and weighs 31.10 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM212 a piece. The mintage quantity is 500 pieces.

2.Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10.60 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.

3. 2 in 1 set
These commemorative coins are also available in a Set of 2, consisting of the coloured silver and Nordic gold proof coins. A total of 2,000 sets are available for sale, each priced at RM265.

Note: All prices stated are inclusive of 6% GST

The coins will be available for sale from 25 April 2016 at Bank Negara Malaysia’s Museum and Art Gallery (MAG), at its regional offices and branch located in Pulau Pinang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
