Royal Canadian Mint will release Superman coins

I just received a news that Royal Canadian Mint will release seven Superman collector coins to celebrate the Man of Steel's 75th anniversary. It will be unveiled in an official ceremony on Sept. 9 in Toronto. Royal Canadian Mint has released 75th Anniversary of Superman coin series on 9 September 2013.

Superman's first appearance was in Action Comics #1, published by National Allied Publications, a corporate predecessor of DC Comics, on April 18, 1938 (cover-dated June 1938). In 1939, a self-titled series was launched. The first issue mainly reprinted adventures published in Action Comics, but despite this the book achieved greater sales.

Each coin will feature highlights from the long history of Superman and have a special engraved message in Superman's own Kryptonian language. The first coin is cast in 14-karat gold and will cost collectors $750 and will depict the first time Superman jumped into action in 1938. The image will show the iconic scene of Superman flying high above Metropolis with the fortress of solitude in the background, drawn by Canadian co-creator Joe Shuster. The other six coins range in price from $129.75 to $29.75 and include a state-of-the-art hologram of Superman flying and a nearly pure silver coin showing Superman in his most recent uniform.

Superman is a fictional character, a superhero that appears in comic books published by DC Comics, and is widely considered an American cultural icon. Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933; the character was sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics) in 1938.
