Malaysian caught in Thailand with fake US dollars

Yesterday, Bangkok Post reported about a Malaysian caught in Thai with fake US dollars.

Thai woman Natasha Shukri, 44, and Malaysian national Zainubin bin Shukri, 53, were caught outside an office building in Soi Sukhumvit 63 at 8pm Wednesday after police found 51 fake US banknotes, each worth about 3,300 baht, in their possession.

Warawut Taweechaikarn, commander of the Investigation Division of the Immigration Bureau, said on Thursday a group of immigration police officers were patrolling the area and observed the suspects acting suspiciously and asked to search them.

A banknote expert from Kasikorn Bank and an official from the United States embassy, who were invited to inspect the confiscated US greenbacks, confirmed the notes were forged.

The suspects were charged with possession of counterfeit money with intent to distribute, Pol Maj Gen Warawut said.
