Johor Constantinople Estate 1 dollar in NSA Auction

Numismatic Society Asia (NSA) will be organising its second coins and banknotes auction on 19th October 2013 at Landmark Village Hotel, Singapore after a succesful 1st Numismatic Society Asia Auction  in April 2013. One of the highlights of the auction is a Johor Constantinople Estate 1 dollar banknote. The very rare private banknote is expected to sale for SGD20,000.

Constantinople Estate
Lot 582: Johor Constantinople Estate 1 dollar banknote
Issued by the estates of Tuan Syed Muhammad bin Ahmad Alsagoff. In early 1870, he was awarded lands by the Johor Royal and approved to import foreign labors to work on the lands. Therefore, private currencies were printed. This note is No.96, printed by the Al Sa’aidi Press, Singapore, once circulated around the area of Kukup.
