Mythical Creatures Phoenix 2013 Silver Coin

On 1st July 2013, The Perth Mint Australia has release a third series from the Mythical Creatures series: Phoenix 2013 Silver Proof Coin. The coin is struck by The Perth Mint on behalf of Coin Club Australia from 1oz of 99.9% silver in proof quality. The coin issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.

Phoenix

The coin reverse show a colored phoenix rising up from flames of fire, as a symbol of renewal. A medieval style banner displays a silhouette of a phoenix and the $1 monetary denomination. The inscription ‘phoenix’ is also featured on a scroll.

The coin obverse show the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2013 year-date.

In ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology, the phoenix is a bird believed to be connected to the sun. Tradition tells that only one phoenix is alive at any one time, with the majestic creature reincarnating itself from fire and arising from the ashes of its predecessor. Thought to symbolise renewal and being a friend to humans, scholars have observed similar creatures across many cultures throughout the ages.
