Many non collector don't know, Malaysia mint its own money in Malaysia. I share some pictures of the Kilang Duit Malaysia (Malaysia Mint) before but the owner of the story ask me to delete the post because his boss knew about the pictures that he took at the mint circulating in the net. If you're my regular blog readers, I think you read the post and saw that pictures. It is a last year post, the pictures taken during Bank Negara Malaysia start to sales Malaysia 3rd series coin card. You can see all the boxes waiting to be taken to BNM branches. They're also one picture related to RMK10 commemorative coin with our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib face on it.
For the past few days, they're many people coming to my blog via keywords "Kilang Duit Malaysia" and many other keywords related to the new coins. When I check the net, look like some political party news sites are talking about the new coins. Some of them were talking how Malaysia waste so much money to print/mint our money outside Malaysia. Look like they don't realize that Malaysia mint all our coins since 1971 at Kilang Wang Bank Negara Malaysia in Shah Alam, Selangor. They're also official reply about who mint the new coins by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai regarding the issue of who got the contract to mint the new Malaysia currency.
Datuk Donald Lim told the Dewan Rakyat on October 2011, "The supplier which has been selected to supply the coins is Poogsan Corporation, South Korea, and the coins are minted at the Bank Negara Malaysia mint in Shah Alam." You can read more about it here; Who mint Malaysia new coins.
Only the coin blanks are imported from Poogsan Corporation, South Korea, the new coins are minted at our own Kilang Wang once known as Royal Mint Malaysia before Bank Negara Malaysia took the mint. Here are complete address of our own Malaysia mint:
Kilang Wang Bank Negara Malaysia,
Kompleks Kilang Wang,
Lot 2 Persiaran Selangor, Seksyen 15,
40000 Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
Early this year, Dickson Niew try to make a trip to Kilang Wang but they're no collector really interested to join the education trip. Many people said they're interested but they don't give us their detail when we told them the date cannot be confirm since it is up to Kilang Wang to decide the date for us. Latest news, it will be almost impossible to visit the mint since they don't accept any visitor anymore for security reason.
Many people also don't know, we also print some of our own banknotes at Giesecke & Devrient Malaysia Sdn Bhd. New Malaysia numismatic club, Kelab Warisan Numismatic said that they want to arrange a trip to the money factory but I think they already knew by now that will be an impossible mission. Here are complete address of
Giesecke & Devrient Malaysia Sdn Bhd:
Giesecke & Devrient Malaysia Sdn Bhd
Lot 6, Off Jalan Delima 1/1. Batu Tiga,
40150 Shah Alam, Selangor.
I wish BNM will give us a chance to visit Kompleks Kilang Wang one day. It is important for us to really understand how we mint our Malaysia coins. I think some of you are also wishing the same thing, right?
