Auto pay machine don't accept the new coins? The new Malaysia coins has already been circulating since 16 January 2012 but some vending machines still don't accept the new coins. In Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) statement for the new coin release on 23 May 2011, vendors of cash handling machines were given six months to calibrate their machines to ensure public convenience for the use of the new currency. Last month, I try to pay my parking fee using the new 50 sen coins in Klang. Lucky for me, the coins just come out. A friend of mine lost 50 sen coin to a vending machine when he want to pay a soft drink in a mall. The new coins has been used in all over Malaysia now. We are in transitional period, it will take a few months for everyone to get use with the new coins.
Where to report auto pay machine?
You can contact BNM if you find any autopay machines which could not accept the New Malaysia Coins at their hotline at 03-2690 7307 or 03-2698 8044 (ext 8252) or you can try contact BNM via facebook at Facebook.com/bnm.official. If you can, record the place, owner (normally they're sticker of the company who do the maintenance of the machine) and your problem.
In a news report by The Star, Malaysian Association for Shopping and Highrise Complex Management (PPK) president H. C. Chan said the authorities had not informed them about the need to upgrade the machines. Why the association don't query about the calibration issue within the 6 months times? Don't tell me they don't know the new coins will be out for circulation this year. They should already started calibrating the vending machines instead of playing the "why you don't tell us" game. BNM has been announcing the new coins since May 2011 in all major newspaper. I think that announcement already sufficient to all of the Vending Machine operators.
