A reader asked me few months ago, Where can you find coin deposit machine in Malaysia? She have so many coins at home and she already try ask commercial bank, some of them don't accept coins at a very large amount like that unless if you want to save it in your account, some bank charge the coin exchange with some fee. I am a regular readers of Bank Negara Malaysia official Facebook page and found some information relating to Coin Deposit Machine (CDM) in Malaysia. A reader asked BNM in Facebook about CDM location in Klang Valley. One of the admin reply and give information about the list of the machines in the Klang valley. That BNM Facebook admin also reply that when you deposit coins in the machine, you will get banknotes. I had seen the machines since 2010 and from what I remember, you will not get cash (banknote). Its either you will get a voucher to shop at the hypermarket or you can deposit coins into your accounts using an ATM card. I don't reply in that particular post because I am not sure if that still happening or you can get cash with your coin exchange.
Today I have a chance to visit Mydin Hypermarket in USJ 1, Subang Jaya. Look like nothing change, you deposit the coins in the machine and you can get a voucher/shopping coupon (look like ATM slip) that is valid on the same day only and cannot be exchangeable with cash. The machine at Mydin are known as "smart syiling" and can be found at Mydin USJ, Sinar Kota and Plaza MPK. I am not sure if you can get cash nowadays at these machines in the banks.
