RM50,000 royalties for P.Ramlee heir

Yesterday, two grandchilds of the late Tan Sri P.Ramlee, who are also the daughter of the late Nasir P.Ramlee, Gurlina, 39, and Gurnarisasca, 32 receive royalties of RM50,000 from the company that making the P.Ramlee coin, KLMint Sdn Bhd (KLMint). The check presented to them by KLMint Chief Executive Officer, Othman Abdullah. Royalties are based on the sale of the commemorative coin program "Heritage Series, P. Ramlee On Coins" which was launched on 11 November by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim. Coin is sold in prominent art collections of three gold plated, silver and copper.

Meanwhile, the Association of Karyawan Malaysia (Karyawan) have also received donations from those same royalties from the company. Vice President of KLMint, Norazmin Nordin presented the check to the President of Karyawan, Datuk Freddie Fernandez in a ceremony held at the Riverside Restaurant, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, Thursday.

Freddie in his speech said, "Heritage Series, P. Ramlee On Coins" aims to commemorate the late Tan Sri P.Ramlee as an icon of national arts industry.

"His works are still alive in the hearts of late fans of various ages. When KLMint approached Karyawan we continue to agree to cooperate with them," he said.

He described the project as a successful business because of the overwhelming demand from fans of commemorative coins collector.

Meanwhile, Gurnarisasca and Gurlina are grateful for the grant of the royalty and plans to distribute some of the royalties to the Foundation of P. Ramlee that will be established soon. KLMint in collaboration with the Karyawan is planning to organize several tour programs for Sri Warisan stall at various locations such as Penang, Langkawi, Singapore, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak. The tour program will be interspersed with some interesting programs in the form of appreciation to P. Ramlee by famous artists of today.
