RM1 banknote survey

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is seeking public opinion on the usage of RM1 banknote. The survey conducted by BNM is intended to measure public opinion on the use of RM1, which is the lowest currency denomination Malaysia. The survey took about 5 minutes to finish (I finish it under 1 minute). The survey has been released since 13 May 2010 by Department of Currency Management and Operations, BNM. BNM said that this survey is important in helping BNM to determine the substrate of a new RM1 banknote.

What I can see from the survey is that so many question about Polymer banknote. Look like most probably the new RM1 banknote will be in polymer? or BNM already produce them and just asked people opinion as a hint to what the new banknote will be? There is no option for any kind of substrate that people can choose that they will like for a new RM1 banknote. It is no point asking a question, if you already printed the answer BNM.

Malaysian never had any RM1 polymer before why BNM asked question like:
BNM should asked people opinion about current RM5 polymer not something that does not exist yet. There is no option for language in this survey. If you cannot read Malay, then most probably you cannot join this survey.

To anyone who still have not take the survey, you can check BNM website or click this link on Call for Public Feedback : RM1 Banknote survey.

Dear Mr.Lunaticg,

It hinted that the RM1 will soon be polymer.
Questions asked are bias as those are all benefits of the polymer technology.

The RM1 banknote is not relevant anymore. The value is low due to inflation. What can you buy with seringgit nowadays?

As the RM1 banknote is widely circulated due to its low value, it is commonly subjected to heavy wear or due to vandalism.

BNM should reintroduce coins for the RM1 as coins last longer. You can still see a 1967 coin in circulation today! I am so shocked to see a newly issued RM1 banknote to be so quickly crumpled due to how Malaysians treat their banknotes!

What do you think of this move?

Hi man with no name.

Why do they need to do a public survey if they already opted for a new RM1 polymer? As you say, RM1 don't have a value anymore. They should make a survey asking public if we need RM1 banknote or not. Not something that they already decide.

I think they stop minted RM1 coin as the cost to produce them became higher everyday. Polymer maybe the cheapest option available right now.

Pointless survey as I see it. RM1 is still duit sayang. To someone who has not..a dollar is alot.

i personally call for RM1, RM2 and RM5 coins~ i have made several research investigating modern currencies like swedish krone, euro and pre-eu currencies like german mark and dutch guilder~ and found that its a good thing to issues coins because as you can see, coins dated back to 1967 is still usable on 2010~ paper money hardly survived after 40 years....considering malaysia RM1 coins is relatively high counterfeited,(i cant imagine how rich counterfeiters of RM5 coins if exist) so, they decide to change it to polymer notes~ RM1 paper notes is simply overprinted as we see in circulation for the first time in malaysia history, we got a triple alphabet of prefix...but i think RM2 notes should be a good solution for this problem~ comparing to singapore dollar and brunei dollar, i think its proper to BNM to print RM1, RM2 and RM5 in polymer~ as the time passes, people will soon get usual with polymer notes~ now, brunei issues all denomination in polymer~

to demolish usage of RM1 notes seems quite weird because its a usual for malaysian people to bring more than 5 notes of RM1 for their daily transaction~ not to forget duit raya, angpau n derma masjid or whatever derma still, not many people can pay them with the green or red notes~
