Online dealer kill this hobby

"Can you tell all your small time online dealer to watch their price? Don't sell at a very low price then current market price. Some of them even flood the market with to many same item at the same time. The price of the item will drop you know. For example the RM50 commonwealth games commemorative banknote, Malaysia Central Bank (BNM) issued price is RM80 but some of the dealer sell them at RM90. What do they think? They're killing the market and killing this hobbies. They just want to take RM10 profit? They don't need to pay for petrol and stuff? Please make them understand, selling is not about getting profit. You also need to sell at market price so other dealer don't mad at you. Other people work a full time job selling coin and banknote, you know!"

SUKOM 98

This is not the first time a dealer complaint to me about small time online dealer way of doing business, I think this year its already over half a dozen time. That is a huge amount considering I am not always meeting them. I know I cannot do anything about it since it is other people business. I can advice them but I don't think it will stop. They're many small time online dealer out there and not everyone of them read my blog. I remember when I start selling online in 2003, I am also doing the same thing but at that day, they're not many sellers who are doing online business for numismatic. At that day, I can find a RM10 item and sell them for RM20 on the same day. I can easily find a cheap stock since they're not many competition around. Except for my Penang sifu who are keep on advising me don't sell my item at a very low price, they're no other people who are making any noise about it. That is almost 10 years ago, today the scenario has change. We have over thousands of people who are selling numismatic related item online. Some of them just want to sell their item fast, even if it mean they don't get any profit from their sell.

Why small time online dealers are killing this hobby?

1. Selling items below market price.
This will make the price for certain item dropping or not moving up especially if they're many people selling the same item at the same price at the same time. When people knew the price of the item is more cheaper online, they will not be buying them offline. Its good for buyer since they can buy item cheaper online but many other sellers are not happy with below the market price sellers.

2. Flooding the market.
Imagine if all the online sellers selling RM1 AAH CR Prefix at the same time, what will happen? Buyer will have many choice and price war will started. Some seller will also sell their item cheaper because they cannot stand to hold their money to long on that item. Buyer will also have the power to bargain since many RM1 CR around. For the past few months, we can see many RM1 CR Ali Abul Hassan start coming into market. One day this will happen if sellers don't control themself.

3. Grading issue.
I had seen and experience many of this small time dealer doing a very poor grading. Counterfeit items are selling as original. Banknote at a fine condition sold as a Uncirculated notes and many more issues that are related to grading. In numismatic, grading is a very important aspect that buyer need to consider for their collection. You will be disappointed when you received the item below your expectation, right?

4. Fraud seller.
Lets don't forget about torn among the roses. I have received many complaint from my buyer about sellers who don't send their item. It make them afraid to do online business. For me, this is fraud and fraud is a crime. Just report them to police and inform me, I will share their information online. Hopefully, their potential victim can find that information online and the fraud will stop.

5. Using someone Identity to do online sell.
I think it is a trend nowadays that we can find a "girl seller" for numismatic product. Most of the buyer for numismatic are guy and they can easily trust a girl because of the sense of fun buying from a girl and almost all of them think girl will never cheat. Its a good marketing strategy but a non ethical practice. Yes.., they're real girl sellers out there but many fake "girl sellers" too.

6. They think selling online don't need to follow Malaysia law.
Many of these small time dealer think they're invisible and they can make their own rules in online sell. They don't care about grading, sell etiquette or even refund their buyer when they do mistake. Online selling also mean buyer and seller are protected by Malaysia law. If they're any dispute regarding any sell, you can also forward your case to Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia under Ministry of Domestic Trade And Consumer Affairs.

Trigometric Sdn Bhd

In my opinion, any collectors who has been visiting Amcorp Mall Flea Market will surely visit Trigometric coin shop too. Trigometric Sdn Bhd or also know as "K.N Boon Shop" founded in 2002 specializes solely in dealing with World Stamps, Coins, and Banknotes. They're collecting and selling all kinds of different stamps, coins, and collectible currencies. Most of you maybe already own 5th edition K.N Boon Book, one of the must have book for Malaysian collectors. Trigometric also known for promoting cultural hobby and collections for youth and student with their KL International Money Fair 2001, 2003 & 2004 at PWTC. Its been to long since the last KL Money fair, hopefully we can see it in a near future.

Even though K.N Boon Shop is not that big but once you visit the shop, you feel like visiting a museum. All the banknote are neatly displayed on the wall, make you feel like the banknotes and coins are special. The shop open from Tuesday until Sunday from 10.00am until 7.00pm. The cheapest way to go there is using Putra LRT; Stop at station Taman Jaya, 5 minutes walk across the road to Amcorp mall. If you don't know which one is the Amcorp Mall building, you can always asked people there, many Malaysian are willing to help guiding you to that place.

Some of my readers asked me to take photo of KN Boon in 2010, I successfully take his photo but I respect his decision not to share his pictures online. By the way, the guy that you always meet at the shop is not K.N Boon. On my last visit on April 2012, they said the new edition of their catalogue book will be out in the near future, no date were given about the release date.

Since most Malaysian collectors already visit this shop, anyone who still have not go to K.N Boon Shop yet?

PJ Auctioneers Sdn Bhd

I think many people already knew, Amcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya are famous for the Amcorp Mall Flea Market but some of you who have not visited that place don't know that Amcorp Mall also have some shop that deal with antique and collectibles including coins/banknotes. PJ Auctioneers Sdn Bhd. Located at Level 3 of the mall, not very far from KN Boon Shop. Some people mistakenly think that the shop only open during auction because of the name. You can get good bargain in this shop as long as you can spot the cheap item among their item on display. Most of their item price are according to market value but there are also banknotes and coins that are cheaper then flea market on the lower ground. You can find coins, banknotes, proof coins, gold coins, stamps, first day covers, telephone cards, vintage furniture and almost any collectibles.

They're also buying your old collection and sell your item for you but they don't just accept everything since their space are limited. The best way is to bring your item to their shop and asked them to evaluate them for you. If you are selling it to a dealer, just remember you need to let go below market price, at least around 30%, don't expect you can get 100% of the value.

Here are some of their item on display that day:

Michael Chew-Amcorp Mall

Another post for my Amcorp Mall Flea Market sellers. I had been sharing post about Jackie and Ng Kim Hom before, you can check them out here; Jackie-Amcorp Mall and Ng Kim Hom-Amcorp Mall. I found these two guy sellers on Saturday 31 March 2012. When I show their pictures to my friend, he refer them as an Amcorp Mall seller with a Stamps Lamp. I think the lamp make them easy to find and they're very talkative and friendly too. Their price for notes and coins are actually reasonable, just don't look at their price tag, you need to ask them for the actual price. You can contact Micheal Chew at handphone number 012-6355463 or via email at mike_animag[at]yahoo.com. They are actually stamps collectors, their item are mostly stamps from Malaya, Straits Settlements, Sarawak, British North Borneo and also Malaysia. You can still find some of their banknote and coin for sell. On that day, I can see they're selling RM1 Ali Abul Hassan CR note, 10 dollars Straits Settlements notes, JIM notes, Malaysia Prefix banknote, British Borneo coins and also Straits Settlements coins. They will be selling on the lower ground on Saturday and on the 1st floor on Sunday.

Jackie-Amcorp Mall

This is a series of posts for my Amcorp Mall Flea Market sellers. I found Jackie on the same day as I found Ng Kim Hom on 31 March 2012. Its Saturday and he is selling on the lower ground floor, he will be on the 1st floor on Sunday. You can contact him at handphone number 010-8906699. I think all the non permanent sellers will be selling on the lower ground on Saturday and on the 1st floor on Sunday, right? Please correct me if I am wrong. On my trip that day, I can see less people coming to Amcorp Mall. Back to Jackie, he is selling mostly world banknote, Malaya coins, Medal, first day cover and silver coins. When I took his pictures, he have a customer around and I cannot get to check some of his album. I suppose to go back to his stall but I had to go to SLCollectors shop on the same day. Sorry Jackie, maybe will check your item next time.

SLCollectors Shop

Yesterday, I have a chance to visit SLCollectors Shop at Millennium Square, Petaling Jaya. I think not many collectors knew about this place unless you're familiar with his website slcollectors.com. The shop run by Mr. Peter Ang, who is also a blogger but sadly his blog has been infected by malware. After finding his shop and meet him personally, I think this is one of the must visit shop if you want a beautiful coins and banknote with a reasonable price. He is also a Straits Settlements coin collector and its like a Straits Settlements heaven in his shop, no wonder Sifu Dickson Niew keep on insisting me to visit his shop. I look at the Straits Settlements coins but at this moment, I am more focusing on completing my Sarawak coins collection. Hopefully, some of the coins will be there when I have a budget for my Straits Settlements coins.

Slcollectors shop

His owner, Mr. Peter Ang is a bit camera shy but he is a nice guy and willing to help new collector understand about his collection. I am only in his shop for about one hour but I saw how he patiently attend a new collector who keep on asking about expensive item such as RM1 Ali Abul signed, 1971 10 sen coin and replacement banknote even if he (the collector) don't have budget to collect those items. Mr. Peter Ang keep on advising him, collect something within your budget. Try to focus on what to collect, if your budget only enough for Malaysia coins, collect until you have a complete set. Don't just jump with buying Straits Settlements coin, the price is bit more expensive and you need a bigger budget. It will make you lost control and in the end, you will not get a complete set for your collection.

Millennium square

PJ map

His shop is not hard to find as long as you can find Millennium Square in Petaling Jaya. Millenium Square is just one kilometer away from Asia Jaya LRT Station  and very near to Digital Mall Petaling Jaya. After you're arriving at the building, look for SLcollectors banner, you just need to follow that banner direction to find his shop. They're not many shops open at this place, so don't worry if you see to many shops closed. Mr. Peter Ang only do business from 2pm until 6pm but I suggest for you to contact him before you make a visit.

For someone who are looking for Malaysia Prime Minister Medallion, he have almost complete set of coins of four with Tun Hussien Onn coin is missing from the box. His Straits Settlements (SS) coins also come with a reasonable price (depends on coin condition) and he has many very find condition (and above) SS coins. Where to buy Kijang Emas Gold Bullion Coin

Where to buy Kijang Emas Bullion? Can I buy Kijang Emas directly from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)? Many newbies in Gold Bullion Buying and Selling don't know that Kijang Emas can only be bought from certain Maybank Branches. Kijang Emas Gold Bullion Coins are Malaysia's own gold bullion coins. Malaysia is the 12th country in the world to issue its own gold bullion coin. The Kijang gold bullion produce by Kilang Wang Bank Negara with 99.99% Gold Purity. The bullion are available in 1 oz (RM200 Face Value), 1/2 oz (RM100 Face Value) and 1/4 oz (RM50 Face Value) size. The Kijang Emas is priced at the daily gold market share. The price is quoted daily and pegged to the international gold price to facilitate buying and selling.

Kijang Emas
The design on the obverse of each coin depicts a barking deer - "kijang" in its natural habitat in the Malaysian jungle.
Malaysia Bullion
The reverse features the hibiscus, the national flower of Malaysia.

For Kijang Emas price you can check Here.

You can purchased The Kijang Bullion individually or as a set at 32 selected Maybank branches. It will be better to called the nearest Maybank in this list since it a little bit hard to find Kijang Emas. Called and booked the Kijang Emas, make sure you go to Maybank and pay the selling price on the same day if the Kijang is available for you. Its a bit hard to find it and the price outside Maybank maybe a little bit high from the market price if your Kijang Gold coin still in the original packet. People buy and collect them and most probably don't want to sell them in the future. The only best place to buy Kijang Emas that I knew is Maybank HQ but you need to be there early morning (if it is available), when they just start to open the bank.

Mr Wong Gaya Street Market

I had been trying to meet Mr Wong Gaya Street Market since I saw him in my Gaya Street visit on 27 September 2010. At that time, he is busy talking with his customer and I need to rush back home to pack and catch my flight. After over one year, I had a chance to meet him on Sunday, 12.02.2012. A friend of mine had been asking me to put Mr. Wong in my blog since he always give him a very good discount and all his banknote and coins price are still negotiable. But unlucky for me, on that day, they're not many item on display.

That friend of mine buy a "Duit Kerbau" for RM900 in Almost Uncirculated condition last year. When I chat with Mr. Wong about the WWF coin, he told me he just sold few pieces of the WWF coin card for RM20 when everyone can only buy them at least RM40 in Kuala Lumpur. Almost all Sabahan coin collector also knew him because of his cheap price item. He work at Hong Leong Bank and only doing his sell at Gaya Street Tamu on Sunday. You can find his stall near the Hong Leong Bank, gaya street. Its a little bit hard to chat with him because they're many collectors who are visiting his stall that day.

Name: Wong Chi Chung@Roy.
Phone Number: +6016-8306900.
Email: roywongchichung@yahoo.com

Here are some photos that I had been taken that day:

When I visit another stall, its a bit surprise for me looking at people non-stop visiting and buying coins and banknotes, no wonder almost all the high condition items are gone in Sabah.
