2020 Tokyo Olympic & Paralympic Games handover coins to be released in September

Japan Ministry of Finance, after considering coins commemorating the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in 2020, has made the decision to release the following information on commemorative coins with a face value of 1,000 yen featuring the theme of the handover of host city from Rio de Janeiro to Tokyo. 

These commemorative coins features color printing on both faces-making it the first of its type for Japan.

The obverse design features the Olympic flag at the flag handover ceremony, along with the representative flowers of both countries, cherry blossom and ipe amarelo, a world map, and a ribbon against a background of the colors of the national flags of Japan and Brazil.

The ceremonial handing over of the Olympic flag and the Paralympic flag to the next hosting city at the closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games respectively.

The reverse side features the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem
