2016 World Team Table Tennis Coins released today

Today, Bank Negara Malaysia has released a commemorative coins in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur World Team Table Tennis Championships 2016. This international tournament has participation from more than 100 countries. It will be held from February 28 to March 6 at Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

The service action for a table tennis game is depicted in the centre of the coin. For the coloured silver coins, the image of the table tennis bat is in red and the ball is in yellow. The words “WORLD TEAM” appear on the upper circumference of the coin while the words “TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016” are inscribed on the lower circumference.

The words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference. The event logo in conjunction with the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2016 is featured on the centre of the coin.

The specifications of the commemorative coins are as follows:

Coloured Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
This proof coloured coin is made of Fine Silver with 99.9 purity and weighs 31.10 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM200 a piece. The mintage quantity is 500 pieces.

Copper Commemorative Coin
This coin is made of pure copper with 99.9 purity and weighs 130 grams. It has a face value of RM5 and will be auctioned at an indicative price of RM150. The mintage quantity is 300 pieces, of which 150 pieces are in matte finishing and the other 150 pieces are in mirror finishing (proof-like).

Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.

Set of 2
These commemorative coins are also available in a Set of 2, consisting of the coloured silver and Nordic gold proof coins. A total of 2,000 sets are available for sale, each priced at RM250.

Note: All prices stated are subject to GST of 6%.

The coloured silver proof and Nordic gold coins will be available for sale from 29 February 2016 at Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery (MAG) and regional offices and branches located in Pulau Pinang, Johor Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Separately, the copper coins will be auctioned on 6 March 2016 at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia.
