Dang Wangi police chief Asst Comm Zainol Samah said the suspects, aged between 37 and 55, had parked their vehicles by the roadside before displaying samples of the counterfeit cash.

"Two of the suspects are real estate agents while the other two acted as middle men," he told a press conference on Tuesday.

"The mastermind, an Indonesian national aged 47, and his middle men had just arrived there with a bag containing the 'cash'. They appeared suspicious when a team of policemen patrolled the area. That prompted us to check on them."

"1,326 pieces of "supernotes" were brought in by the mastermind. The notes look really identical to the real ones. That's why we call them 'supernotes'," he added.

"Even the smell is similar to genuine money. The value of the items is still being evaluated."

"The suspect has entered the country 17 times for various reasons and the last time was on June 17 before he was arrested," he said, adding that the suspect had legally entered by social pass.

Zainol said both buyers were brothers, aged 38 and 45 years and were real estate agents.

He said police believed that the suspect was here to find buyers and display some samples, before returning with a larger quantity of the fake money. The suspects are being remanded to facilitate investigations.
