2012 Ice Hockey World Cup Coin

On 13 April 2012, The Mint of Finland has released a 2012 Ice Hockey World Cup Coin. The coin released is to commemorate the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship that will take place between sixteen teams from 4 May until 20 May 2012. Finland and Sweden will host the event with games being played in Helsinki and Stockholm. The polished, proof-quality collector coin comes packaged in a folder which tells the tale of the coin itself. The collector coin is also offered in UNC quality (circulation grade), in bags of 10 coins each.

The 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship collector coin captures the exciting standoff and the key moment of the game: when the puck enters the goal. The reverse side of the coin depicts a player with the puck on his stick at the face-off, when the score is still even. The obverse side depicts a puck flying into the goal and the conclusion of the match. The coin is designed by Petri Neuvonen.
